Jill’s professional path was set by the off-hand utterance of a simple phrase, “I love data” to a supervisor. (The statement was backed up by a book in hand at that moment, which is described by its publisher as “the only reference that presents historical and statistical information on every important aspect of the U.S. Supreme Court.”) This brief encounter set in motion a series of events that soon found her serving in a dual role as a family literacy instructor and as a research assistant to the program’s external evaluator followed by a long-term position in an internal research and evaluation department for a mid-sized educational nonprofit.
Fifteen years later, these early professional experiences continue to shape Jill’s thinking about the multitude of ways in which consultants and organizations can work together to develop clear strategies and support ongoing learning and impact through evaluative inquiry. Jill’s work is also grounded in wanting others to love data by expanding use of visual representations and bringing evaluative tools and practices into organizations in ways that can be sustained internally—this includes her approach to meetings and group facilitation processes in which she draws on her teaching and evaluation experience to incorporate constructivist practices and attend to principles of adult learning.
With jdcPartnerships, Jill has worked closely with organizational leaders and with staff to promote useable and useful evaluative tools and systems. Often beginning with a conceptual framework or model to articulate the relationship between strategies and intended impact, Jill works with clients to ground, align, and synthesize varied types and sources of information to inform both operational decisions and broader strategic intention and design. And, while data love might suggest a preference for quantitative methods, Jill finds the greatest satisfaction in using both qualitative and quantitative methods to deliver a richer picture of experiences and impacts. Skilled in the use of advanced software such as SPSS and ATLAS-ti to support analysis, she is also well versed in using more readily available software and online tools to provide a range of options for clients who may wish to increase their evaluative capacity.
In addition to co-authoring several publications in the field of evaluation, including a forthcoming book on engaging stakeholders in the development and design of theories of change and logic models, Jill frequently presents on these topics at national and regional conferences.
Prior to joining jdcPartnerships, Jill held Research Assistant and then Research Associate positions with Torres Consulting Group and Developmental Studies Center. Jill received a B.S. degree in Political Science from Arizona State University.
