Being a First

I have been going back and forth in my head about watching the 2024 Presidential Debate. My heart and body convinced me this offering better serves. Started in my mind at 4:30 AM then shifted to iPhone and finished around 2 hours later.

If you are a first then you understand the complexity of today.  If you are a Black woman it likely sits a little differently.

Time folds upon itself.

The past - all that happened before making this moment improbable and necessary. The future - what now is possible and unforeseeable. Meanwhile you are in the present - dancing between exhilarated  and exhausted.  Expectations abound - yours and others.

A request:

  1. acknowledge what it requires of and often takes from you,

  2. thank those who support you being you, and

  3. be kinder and more generous to yourself.

Today, I celebrate you.
